Round four of the 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship heads north of the border to Knockhill this weekend with Hager PBM Ducati rider Glenn Irwin looking to continue his winning streak.
The 34-year-old from Northern Ireland enjoyed a stellar month in May whereby he won four races in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship as well as doing the hat-track at the International North West 200, so after a month long break, Irwin is back and raring to go.
He leads the title race by 13 points arriving at the Scottish circuit where he won two of the three races last year on the PBM Ducati. He should really have made it a treble but slipped off at the Hairpin when leading with just a few laps remaining so is hopeful of another good showing.
And with the track being situated not far from the ferry crossing from Northern Ireland, and also it being relatively close to the Hager PBM Ducati team’s Cumbrian origins, there will be lots of support for Glenn as well as team owners Frank and Jordan Bird.
Glenn Irwin: “It’s nice to have had a couple of weeks away from racing motorbikes, but I’ve still been working hard in order to prepare for Knockhill. This always feel like a home round for all of us from Northern Ireland and having achieved the double last year, it’s even more special now. We still have a lot to work on and there are areas we need to focus on but we’ll continue our plan. I’m in a great frame of mind, I’m healthy and really looking forward to the weekend and I know we’ll have a lot of support so hopefully we can grab a few victories and send everyone home happy.”
Jordan Bird, Team Owner:
“Knockhill is always a weekend we look forward to. We as a team have had a couple of weeks to reflect on what has been a hugely successful start to the year. We are all recharged and ready to hit the ground running on Friday in what we hope will be sunny Scotland. As always we are looking forward to welcoming lots of friends, family, sponsors and partners to what I’m sure will be an exciting weekend of racing.”
